martian gardener

Shown at: Nottingham Contemporary Star City Show, 2010. Burry St Edmunds Gallery, Oasis Show, 2010 Carolyn Heinz Gallery, Hamburg 2009 Hand And Heart Gallery Nottingham, 2009 The Martian Gardener series re-examine notions of modernism, such as: utopia, progress and functionality, together with the prospect of the future colonisation of planet Mars. The imagery, which questions the possibilities for nature in human constructed environments, steps further away from Russian constructivism though the choices and combinations of materials and the emergence of the figurative from the abstract. The proportions and the size of the boards, the frame left around the images and the shiny circles in the middle are reminiscent of Russian Icons.
